Alfred (Al) Elmer Wray, 78 of Boones Mill passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020.
He was born on November 8, 1941 a son of the late Howard and Anna Wray.
Alfred was the eldest to four siblings. He often referred to himself as a simple country boy who ran around with no shirt and jean overalls. He was so fond of the mountain he grew up on with the apple trees and memories.
He married the love of his life, Judy Darlene Mullins Wray on September 9th, 1961, Salem Virginia. He graduated from Franklin County High School, and attended two years at Virginia Western, and U. S. Air Force.
He was a disabled veteran serving in the U. S. Air Force and retired from the United States Postal Service (post office) after 34 years of service.
Alfred is better known as, “Papa”. His children were his life and family is what mattered the most to him. His sacrificial devotion and hard work ethic helped to shape those who loved him most. Papa would do anything for anyone. His core motivation for how he lived was because of Jesus. Papa’s interest were the interest of others, and if he could share a bowl of ice cream with them... even better! He attended a weekly prayer meeting with several close friends for 30 plus years! His dedication, resilience, and happy smile is one of a kind. He taught us to not take ourselves too seriously, as he would say, “I’m too blessed to be stressed.” He had an eye to see what truly matters.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Judy Wray; children, Glenda Lacy, Sam Lacy (spouse), Tim Wray and Caroline Wray (spouse); grandchildren: Tori Wray, Brittany Liberto, and Nicholas Liberto (spouse); great-grandchildren, Christian Antonio Taylor and Talitha Rose Liberto; siblings, Ronnie, Joan, Patty, and Jeff.
