Alma H. Smithers

Alma H. Smithers, age 99, of Rocky Mount passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Franklin Health Care Center. She was born January 25, 1913 the daughter of the late William Heckman and Sarah S. Heckman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Smithers; sisters, Ora LaPrade, Edith Landers; brothers, Howard Heckman, Carroll Heckman; half sister, Elise Anderson; half brother, Herbert Heckman. Left to cherish her memory are several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Alma was a longtime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a nurse and retired from Lane Furniture Company. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Lynch Conner Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Shively officiating. Interment will follow in Gogginsville United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday before the service.
