Alva Louise Struzziery

Alva Louise Anderson Struzziery, 83, passed away at home on Friday, June 22, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend Anthony Martin Struzziery, Sr. of Sunset Beach, NC, her parents Alfred and Elizabeth Anderson of Worcester, MA, her son Mark of Joplin, MO and her son Charles of Brick, NJ. Alva is survived by her devoted son Anthony Jr. and daughter-in-law Marilyn and their adorable Jack Russell terrier Cody, of Boones Mill, her loving daughter Diane and son-in-law Mark Cannaday, also of Boones Mill, two precious granddaughters, Kendall O’Malley and Kaitlyn and husband Christopher Tinder– all of Sonoma, CA, sister Betty Joan and brother-in-law Merrill Spiller of North Easton, MA, her dear cousin Sister Mary Lucille Grouchy of Latham, NY, many wonderful nieces and nephews from Massachusetts, and special friends at Piedmont Presbyterian Church in Callaway, VA and St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Shallotte, NC. The family would especially like to acknowledge Alva’s exceptional caregiver, Karen Preston of Rocky Mount. Alva was a Christian woman in the truest sense of the word and never had an unkind word about anyone. She graduated from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA and taught elementary school for many years. A longstanding member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Alva had a built-in set of sisters wherever she and Tony went. They lived in Binghamton, NY, Englishtown, NJ, Berlin Center, OH, Phoenix, AZ, East Windsor, NJ and ended up in Sunset Beach, NC, where Alva became a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King and found many loving friends there as well. There will be two memorial services for “Miss Alva” – Saturday, June 30th at Piedmont Presbyterian Church in Callaway, VA at 10 am; and at St. James the Fisherman in Shallotte, NC on Saturday, July 7th at 10am. We are sincerely grateful for the many kindnesses, messages, prayers and expressions of sympathy received during the passing of our beloved Alva.
