Alvin Johnson, age 75 of Wirtz passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Alvin was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was born August 22, 1935 a son of the late Otho and Beulah Ramsey Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kermit Johnson; and a sister, Barbara Jean Johnson Bolla. Surviving are his wife Brenda Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Chipper and Patti Johnson, Ridgeway; special daughter, Rhonda Johnson, of the home; daughter, Becky Hundley Coveney, Tennessee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Emory “Buck” and Jean Johnson, Beaver Dam, Virginia, Gary and Brenda Johnson, West Virginia; grandchildren, Jessica Johnson, Nikki Johnson and AJ Johnson; great-granddaughter, Jaylynn Moorman; several nieces and nephews including special niece Kelly Johnson, Ohio. A special thanks to all of the doctors and special nurses at the VA Medical Center for their loving care. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 with Pastor Jerry Naff officiating. Interment will follow with military rites at Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Smith Mountain Lake Church of the Brethren, 6675 Burnt Chimney Road, Wirtz, Virginia 24184. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, Route 220 @ Wirtz Road, Rocky Mount.
