Alvin Mitchell Spencer, Sr., age 88 of Rocky Mount passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
He was born January 7, 1928 a son of the late Charles Mitchell and Lena Busic Spencer. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was known for his sense of witty humor and being a loving husband and father as he was considered to be the first “Mr. Mom”.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; son, Danny Spencer; one sister; and three brothers.
Mr. Spencer is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin Mitchell Spencer, Jr. (Betty Anne), Winchester, Gary Davis Spencer, Sr. (Joyce), Wirtz, Scott Jeffery Spencer (Mary Anne), Rocky Mount; his daughters, Jo Emerson, Dallas, Texas, Brenda Burks, Goodview, Alice Miller, Rocky Mount; special daughters-in-law who were like daughters, Joyce and Mary Anne); 10 grandchildren, Eric Emerson, Devon Burks, Mitch Spencer, Ross Spencer, Gary (LG) Spencer, Jr., Brittany Spencer, Jennifer Spencer Anderson, Daniel Davis Anderson, Steffany Walker and Summer Spencer; two special granddaughters, Vicky Neiderhiser and Emilee Shrewsbury; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Spencer, West Virginia and Clarence Spencer, Troutville.
Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home Chapel 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2016 with Pastor Mark Stugelmeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with military honors.
