Alvin Stanley

September 4, 1932 — April 9, 2016

Alvin Stanley, age 83 of Callaway, passed away April 9, 2016, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Noah and Elva Stanley; brother Raymon; sister Annie Stanley and by his loving wife, Joyce Nichols Stanley. Surviving are his four children Junior “Snake” Stanley and William Stanley, Marie (Wayne) Stanley all of Callaway, and Kathy (Rob) Mason of Botetourt, VA. He is also survived by his six grandchildren Bradley (Shelly) Stanley of Callaway, Ashley (Bobby) Davis of Redwood, Anthony and Steven Stanley of Callaway, Levi and Lauren Stanley of Callaway and one step granddaughter Cheyenne Mason; Six great grandchildren and a very special friend and neighbor Jerry Guilliams. Our father served in the Korean War and loved his bluegrass music. He was a good father, husband and grandpa. Alvin never met a stranger and had many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. The family would like to thank the nurses and CNA’s on Unit 1 of Franklin Healthcare for taking such good care of him during his stay there and Carilion Hospice for their loving care during his final days. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to Highland United Methodist Church, 8535 Callaway Rd., Callaway, VA 24067 or to the Callaway Rescue and Fire Departments, P.O. Box 44, Callaway, VA 24067. Funeral Services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home (Town Chapel) 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 with Rev. Amy Pannell officiating. Interment will follow in the Cooper Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, (Town Chapel) 140 Floyd Ave, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.
