Bernita Marietta “Bernie” Vaassen Neiers, age 60 of Rocky Mount and formerly of Platteville, Wisconsin died Monday, September 30, 2013 as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Bernie was an avid motorcyclist who loved to ride her Harley and she was a Registered Nurse with Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Her passions in life were riding her Harley and helping others. It was her desire at her death to continue helping others by donating her organs so others may live.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Leo and Mildred Mueller Vaassen; sister, Janet Marie and Joanne Ragon. Surviving are her son, William Neiers; her siblings, Charles (Diane) Vaassen, Rosemary Gilbertson, Robert Vaassen, Emmarita Vaassen (Don Weaver), Dorothy (Francis) Miesen, Anita (Ray) Casper, Joanne Ragon (Joanne deceased in 2009), Marilyn Basye, Thomas (Janice) Vaassen, Mary Catherine Silberschlag, Richard Vaassen (Kathleen), Janet Marie Vaassen (deceased 1962); 47 nieces and nephews and 52 great nieces and nephews; two special fur children, Harley and Athena; and many special friends and co-workers.
Bernie’s family will be receiving friends Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will conducted in Cuba City, Wisconsin by Hauden Shield Funeral Home, Cuba City, Wisconsin at a later date. Interment will follow in Saint Andrews Cemetery, Tennyson, Wisconsin. Arrangements by Conner-Bowman Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 220 North @ Wirtz Road, Rocky Mount.
