Billy Wayne Dudley, 79, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on December 20, 2020.
He was born to parents Holbert and Doris Dudley on August 11, 1941 in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
Billy Wayne worked at Lane furniture for a short while but then went to barber school around the age of 28. He began his barber career working at Meek’s barber shop in Rocky Mount and then began his own business cutting hair out of his home. He also served as a volunteer for the Rocky Mount Rescue squad and was a lifetime member and was a member of member of Henry Fork church of the Brethren.
Billy Wayne married Maggie Elaine Thurman, the love of his life, on August 5, 1966. He is survived by his loving wife, Maggie, his son Timmy and wife Michelle, his son Brian and wife Alicia, grandchildren, Jordan and Jacob, and step-granddaughter Brianna, his sister Mary Evelyn Harrison, special sisters-in-law, Mary Thurman, Kay Thurman, Nancy Thurman and brother-in-law Ravon Thurman along with many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Holbert Dudley, mother, Doris Dudley and sister Nora Belle Bennett.
Billy Wayne was known for his love of “making music”. He began playing guitar and singing at the age of 16 to make money to buy ice cream, and movie tickets. He played music all over Franklin County, Roanoke, and Martinsville. He loved playing music to entertain people, especially in nursing homes and for his wife and family.
His family would like to make special mention of his lifelong friend Earl Mattox as well as special friends Ravon Thurman, Mike Dillon, Robert Iuppa and Bill Greer.
The family would like to thank Carilion Franklin Memorial ICU doctors and nurses for their special care and attention.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Burial to follow at Franklin Memorial Park. Due to the mandates by our Governor over COVID-19, we will be following the guidelines for social distancing and face masks. We appreciate your understanding.
