Bob Fyke, Jr.

Robert "Bob" Wayne Fyke, Jr. age 77 of Rocky Mount, VA Peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Bob graduated from Argenta High School in 1964. Following high school he joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged to help his family on the farm.  This is where he developed his strong work ethic and love of tractors and heavy machinery. He valued family and loyalty which was exemplified by following in his father’s footsteps in becoming a member of the Masons.

Bob continued to work hard and pursue his goal of higher education while raising his family. He proudly built his resume with employment at several factories and eventually attaining his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Bob finished his long distinguished career at Yokahama Tire, retiring in 2007.

Bob was well known for his ability to fix anything…plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry-he either fixed it or he built. This included his 4 year restoration of a 1955 GMC bright canary yellow truck he lovingly nicknamed “Tweety”.  Bob was no stranger to home construction either, he built a beautiful home he shared with his wife, Jessica for over 8 years.

When Bob wasn’t busy working on a home project he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching DA BEARS and his favorite NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed anything and everything related to history and had an insatiable appetite to know how things worked. His curiosity got the best him one afternoon while chasing a smoke stack, he saw out in the distance, in ‘Lil Red with Jessica.  ‘Lil Red would often take him out on treasure hunts to collect trinkets for his library.

Speaking of appetite, Bob never met a sweet treat (popcorn, butterscotch cookies, carrot cake, pie, snickers, peanut buster parfait, peanut butter toasties) he didn’t love.  He was a tried and true meat and potatoes guy. It’s often been said that he came to the South for a job and stayed for the food.

Bob would rarely be seen without a pet. He was such an animal lover, especially of dogs. He had several throughout his life including Sam, Rommel, McIntosh, Webster, Bill, Speedy, Dixie and Rebel, Bella, Sissy and Pippa, and Boar Kitty. Both Bill and Bella will hold a special place in his heart.

His witty intellect and unmatched sense of humor is just a couple of his best traits. His wisecracking remarks and playful antics were inspired by one of his favorite shows, The Three Stooges, which he enjoyed watching in his recliner.  Bob was a one of kind man that they just don’t make anymore. He was a great husband, a great dad and a great friend. He is the man, the myth, the legend.

He is survived by his wife Jessica M. Fyke, married May 4, 1996, of Rocky Mount, VA. His daughter Darci Walker and Mike Walker, of Oakley, IL and their three children, Savannah Walker (Joey Roberts), Tyler Walker and Kadie Walker, Sydney Walker (Trevor Hachtel); daughter Erica Stevens and Eric Stevens, of Fenton, MO and their three children, Emilee Stevens, Elijah Stevens, Elliotte Stevens; son Andrew Fyke and Cynthia Fyke, of Watertown, SD  and their children, Andres Fyke and Carolyne Fyke and great grandson Jordon Jay Fyke; daughter Kelly Hahn and John Hahn of Bedford, VA and their children Kaylyn Carter and Hunter Carter, Zakry Overstreet, Elija Overstreet, Elana Overstreet, Austin Hahn and Leathie Hahn, Lindsey Hahn; his sisters  Carol Marsh and Phyllis Massey, and many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his sister Louise O’Brien.
