Brian Elmer Atkins, age 44, of Ferrum, passed away peacefully July 2, 2010 with his special companion, Amanda Quinn and the music of his friend Jr. Sisk, at his side. Brians love for his children, family, friends, and bluegrass music was his life. Brian is preceded in death by his grandparents, Annie & Beverly Atkins and Julian F. Gearheart; and his mother Mary Lois Atkins. Brian is survived by his daughter, Samantha Atkins; his son, Wesley Atkins; his father, Elmer Atkins; his grandmother, Clyde Gearheart; one brother & wife, Dean and Teresa Atkins; many other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and special angel, second mom Mary Jo Atkinson. Funeral services will be held at Maple Grove Methodist Church Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. A lunch will be provided after the service for family & friends in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BB&T Bank, 4505 Timberland Road, Ferrum, VA, or any branch bank. Brian was a carpenter by trade and is now building his cabin in Glory Land on the Heavenly Shores.
