Brian Edward Foy

January 14, 1949 — May 2, 2015

How do you begin writing about the person you love? Our dad was a lot of fun. He grew up in a close-knit community in Greenwood Lake, New York. His brothers, Mike and Chip, created a band, “Brian and the Shadows.” The whole town knew the Foys. Dad, Harry, was mayor and Chief of Police, and Mom, Carol, was involved in just about anything related to the community. They were a well-loved family. At a young age Brian became obsessed with engines. He raced flat-bottom drag boats and cars. He passed his love of racing onto his children Heather, who built engines with him since the age of four, and Brad, who still races late model stock cars. His other two sons, Brian and Shane, enjoyed cars, as well. Brian was brave (and crazy!) enough to join the Marines during the Vietnam War. He served as a radioman and was later promoted to night sniper in Vietnam. He wanted to be just like his Dad. Brian moved here from New York. Since he loved water, he was attracted to Smith Mountain Lake. He loved his family even more: Sons, Brian, Shane, and Brad and Daughter, Heather, along with their mom, Sue. All of Brian’s nieces and nephews will miss him tremendously. They loved his deviled eggs at family picnics. He was happy when the family expanded to include daughters-in-law Jessica (Brad) and Nora (Brian, Jr.) and grandson, Johnny. Brian will be laid to rest in his hometown of Greenwood Lake, New York, alongside his Mom, Dad, and the dog he loved so much, Laffen. It gives the family peace to know they are now all together. A celebration of Brian’s life will be held for immediate family only. He will be greatly missed and will always be in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, Brian would have sincerely appreciated contributing toward a fund set up for counseling for his family.
