Carlton Currie Butler, 93, of Moneta, Virginia went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on June 5, 2022. He passed away peacefully on his 67th wedding anniversary. He was born June 23, 1928 in Moore County NC. He served his country in the Merchant Marines, and 11th Airborne Division of the US Army during World War II. Following his military service he attended NC State University where he graduated in Textiles Engineering. He worked for Cone Mills for 33+ years in Greensboro, NC. He retired to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia where he enjoyed gardening, playing golf, and traveling the world with his loving wife. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, enjoyed attending Boat Church on Smith Mountain Lake and Mt. Ivy Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Louise (Weesie) Butler. He is survived by his children Candida Butler Ellis (Mike), Carlton Currie Butler Jr (Kim), Cynthia Butler Warner (Cress); five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Marion Butler and several nieces and nephews. The family will honor Carlton and Louise with a celebration of their lives to be announced at a later date.
