Carmen Moran Craighead, 89, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, was called home Monday, July 22, 2013. She was born March 16, 1924 to the late John and Alice “Granny” Moran. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Sherman T. Craighead and brother Joel A. Moran.
Carmen was a very caring and compassionate lady. She was a dedicated homemaker and nothing pleased her more than being surrounded by the love of friends and family. Carmen touched many lives and was greatly loved by those who knew her. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. Carmen’s Christian life was also very important to her and she was an active member at Monte Vista Church of the Brethren for many years.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Eddie and Margie Craighead, David and Nancy Craighead; one daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Bobby Amerson; daughter-in-law Marie Kincer; grandchildren Michael Craighead, Jerry Coleman, Angela and Randy Fitzwater, Brandon and Lauren Craighead, Jarrett and Emily Amerson; four great-grandchildren Ean Amerson, Lily Davis-Craighead, Ada Davis-Craighead and Emma Fitzwater; sisters-in-law Jean Moran, Gladys and Tinsley Webster and Pearl and Horace Gardner; also a special friend and companion Becky Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted from Monte Vista Church of the Brethren 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Jimmy Robinson and Pastor Barry Sink officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Conner Bowman Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 220 @ Wirtz Rd. Rocky Mount. (540)334-5151.
