Carol Scott Carter

April 25, 1945 — April 27, 2012

Carol Scott Carter, 67 and formerly of Franklin County died peacefully in her sleep Friday night, April 27th 2012, at her home in Richmond. She joins heavenly family members; father Thurman E. Scott (Junior), nephew Craig Handy and a dear friend Dr. Lee Bloodworth. She is survived by her mother Willie M. Scott of Ferrum. Carol was a devoted mom to her daughter Willie Owen and husband Eddie of Rocky Mount and to her son Dennis Valianos of Ventura, California. She was a special Mimi to granddaughters Alexandra Valianos, Rachel and Mackenzie Hall, and Payton and Alexis Owen. She was a big sister to Linda Handy and husband Kenneth of Callaway and Glenda Thompson and husband Bobby of Ferrum. Her life was spent to the service others as a social worker beginning at The County Social Services Department then on to Franklin Memorial Hospital as the Director of Social Services; where in 1987 she was named Social Services Director of the year for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and lastly at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond. With her free time Carol enjoyed gardening, home decorating, playing piano, spending time with her family and extending and expanding community service to staff and patients at the Veterans Hospital Her life was dedicated to the Glory of God. All family, friends and co-workers will miss her unique talents and special gifts that she shared. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Grove United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, c/o Debbie Scott, 6310 Turners Creek Road, Ferrum, Virginia 24088. A celebration of her life will be conducted from Maple Grove United Methodist Church 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012 with Rev. Winston Crichlow officiating. Her family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall beginning at 12 noon. Arrangements by Lynch-Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 140 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount.
