Dalton R. Ferguson, age 90 of Ferrum, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and child of God, died on Monday, November 21, 2011.
Mr. Ferguson was a World War II Veteran and a member of American Legion Post # 6 in Rocky Mount, and he was a faithful member of First Church of the Brethren of Ferrum for 57 years.
He was born September 29, 1921 a son of the late James and Effie Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Grover Ferguson and wife Clydie; sisters, Ruby Scott and Doris Boyd; and two nephews, Dickie and Danny Ferguson.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Nellie Woods Ferguson; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Betty Ferguson, Larry and Sherry Ferguson; daughter, Linda Ferguson-Saunders; six grandchildren, Ron and wife Sheree, Eddie and friend Sonia, Mark and wife Karen, Mike, Lori-Anne Saunders, Jennifer Barton and husband, Rob Roberts; eight great-grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Kaitlin, David, Ricky, Ashleigh, Robie and Soren; one great-great-granddaughter, Carly. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family and dearest friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 with Pastor Ben Layman and Rev. Wayne Wingfield officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with military rites by American Legion Post #6.
