Dean Deborah Waters Yancey, VWCC age 60, of Callaway passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at home with her family by her side after a battle with cancer. Deborah was born on December 23, 1956 in Vero Beach, Florida. She gained a MBA from Averett University and had a successful career at Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) as student, instructor and retiring as Dean of BTT. She is survived by her husband, Steven Yancey; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Jason Wilkes; her parents, W. P. and Jeanette Waters; siblings, Gwen Stubbs (Leslie), Kenneth Waters (Kathy) and Paul Waters (Barbara). She is also survived by her nieces, Christy Decker (Chris), Lisa Simmons (Mike), Pam MacDonald (BJ), Becky Karns (Chris), Katie Waters, Teresa Anderson (Brian), Erin Edwards (Robert), Melisa Farris (Mike), Lesley Robertson (Brad), Robert Miller (Erynn) and Cheyenne Gish (Caleb) great-nieces and great-nephews, other family members and friends including her VWCC family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Yancey Scholarship fund through VWCC. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor B. J. MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Callaway Community Cemetery.
