Alvin "Derwin" Wilhelm age 63 of Covington passed away unexpectantly on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at his home. He was born on August 15, 1961 a son to Burton and Margaret Wilhelm. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Caldwell Wilhelm; grandparents, Fred and Frances Caldwell, Allen, "Jake" Sr. and Florence Johnson; uncles, Julian, Stuart and Wayne Caldwell; his quarter horse Patchy, whom he had for 31 years.
Derwin was a gifted man in many ways as he could do anything. He was known as the man of "jack of all trades", and he would go on to quickly say "but master of none". If you knew him, you know he was the master of all as well. He prided himself in being a dad and Paw Paw, these were the two titles he loved more than life itself. He loved all of his family and would do anything for them at any given time. Derwin would give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it and never ask for a thing in return and used that same philosophy in helping anyone that would ask. Other than his family his passion in life was his unending love of horses. Taking care of and riding them always put a smile on his face. He let his actions in life speak for his character and his loving memory will bring comfort to all that ever crossed his path. Derwin will always be loved and missed by all that ever knew him and, in the end, doing it his way, "The Cowboy (Saddle Tramp) Rides Away".
Surviving are his wife and companion, Sue Campbell; daughter, Samantha Campbell (Dubbie Humphries); his granddaughter, Serenity Campbell (Ethan Martin); father, Burton Wilhelm; brother, Gary Wilhelm (Charlene); and his sister, Lorrie W. Ferguson (Hugh). He is also survived by his paternal aunts and uncles; Betty and Robert Long, Martha Wilhelm, Allen Johnson and Darrell Crawford; maternal aunts and uncles, his "Nannie", Darlene West, Liz Ripley, Mary Sue Morris, Linda Caldwell, Bill and Sandy Caldwell and his special uncle, Carlos Caldwell; his canine companion, Reba; nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, other family members and friends.
