Dorothy Joan Arrington

Dorothy Joan Larsen Arrington, age 82, of Rocky Mount passed away Friday night, October 12, 2012. She was born October 10, 1930 the daughter of the late Raymond Larsen and Ruby Ruth Setzer Larsen. She was preceded in death by five siblings, Ski, Thelma, Margie, Larry, Richard. Dorothy was a loving friend, wife, mother whose strength and love held the family bond tightly even after leaving California for Rocky Mount, VA. In 2003 she and Mayland lost their home in the California fires and decided to return to Mayland’s hometown. They made new friends, renewed old friends, had a lot of family in Franklin County and a powerful Pastor, Joe Dillon at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church providing her support and many new friendships. She is comforted in the Lord’s Arms, though we are devastated to lose our good mother and the love of Mayland’s Life. She touched so many hearts; surviving are her husband, Mayland E. Arrington, Jr. of Rocky Mount; eight children, John DeMent, Marylynn (Joe) Heuel, Judith (Reed) Pacheco, Mayland (Berniece) Arrington, III, Michael Arrington, Julie (John) Couture, Laurie (John) Horsley, Stephen (Jennifer) DeMent; 11 grandchildren, Tony, Jeremy, Bianca, Katey, Bobby, Teresa, Tyler, Travis, Larry, Tina, Jason; several great grandchildren; sister, Pattie Henzie; numerous dear cousins, nieces and nephews; especially close brother-in-law and sister-in-law, L.D. and Ruth Arrington. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ivy Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday night at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church.
