Dorothy Vivian Carter

Dorothy Vivian Pendleton Carter age 87 of Ferrum passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013. She was the former owner/operator of Hill Top Grocery working side by side with her husband until his death and continuing the business for years and she was also a seamstress. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, Buren Clyde and Dorothy Boyd Pendleton; her husband, Thomas Donovan Carter; daughter-in-law, Roma Anne Carter and a sister, Carrie Lee Young. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Buren and Carol Carter, Donna C. and Danny Barker, David A. and Elaine Carter, Marie C. and Michael Crouch, Randy Lee and Jeanie Carter, Cynthia C. and Mike Smith; her grandchildren, Mary Anne Saunders (Pete), Tom Carter, Chris Barker (Lela), Scarlett Deering (Jeff), Melissa Cloutier (Jason), Martha Carter (Robin Farris), Matthew and Melissa Carter, Neely Bowling, Ginny Crouch, Michael Crouch, Justin Carter (Lauren), Todd Cox (Maria), and Angie Coleman (Jed). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ashton, Zachary, Chloe, Celie, Conner, Abby, Nathan, Evan, Isabelle, Guiseppe, Troy, Cole, Tiana, Alex, Adam, Jon, Isabelle, Jaelyn, Tyler, Abby and Logan; sisters, Violet Lyon, Laura Ferguson, Lora Wall (Charlie), Nannie Lou Kessler (Herman) and Thelma Young; several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Sunday October 20, 2013 with Rev. Bud Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the Carter Family Cemetery, Ferrum.
