Edna Cameron ODell Weaver of Wirtz, VA passed away at the age of 93 on August 2, 2010. She was born in Ridgeway, VA on March 2, 1917. She was predeceased by her parents, William Cameron ODell and Fanny Craddock ODell; six sisters, Ann Bateman, Mazie Barrow, Fannie Marlow, Ella Gregory, Rosa Black, and Emma Weaver; one brother, Pete ODell; and her loving husband of 43 years, George David Weaver. She is survived by her children, G. Ronald Weaver and wife Barbara of Salem, Juanita Weaver Wolfe and husband Gary of Penhook, and Wayne Weaver and wife Ruby of Roanoke; grandchildren, Tonya Dean Wolfe of Roanoke, Angela Weaver Gorski of Suffolk, David R. Weaver of Lynchburg, and Zach Ward of Charlotte, NC; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Virta ODell and Helen ODell of Ridgeway, Lillian DeBacco of Hartford, CT; brother, Leslie ODell and wife Mary; brother-in-law, Russell Gregory of Ridgeway; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Cindy Williamson and Sammy Fiedler. She was a Charter member of Connelly Memorial Baptist Church in Roanoke, where she taught childrens Sunday school for 25 years and worked in the cafeteria at Washington Heights School. Since moving to Wirtz, she had been an active member of Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church for 29 years and was honored by the area United Methodist Women as Woman of the Year. Ednas life was one of quiet service to her family, her community, her church, and her God. Through her many activities, she touched the hearts of all who came her way and was truly a servant in Gods Kingdom. Her reputation of being an excellent seamstress brought her much joy and allowed her to meet and create and ever-widening circle of friends. She served for many years preparing meals for the Burnt Chimney Ruritan Club, and gave tirelessly of her time and talents to her church. She was the epitome of dignity, poise and grace. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5 from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel with Dr. Wesley Inge Retired, Rev. DeRoy Campbell, and Rev. Burton White of Burnt Chimney UMC officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke, VA. There will be a meal provided by the members of Burnt Chimney UMC in the fellowship hall following interment. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Edna asked that donations be made to Burnt Chimney United Church General Fund or Carilion-Franklin Hospice. The family would also like to extend special thanks to her daughter, Juanita and husband Gary, Dr. Rodney Poffenberger and his staff, Lewis-Gale Out-Patient Surgery, and Carilion Franklin Hospice, especially Danielle, Fran, and Karen for their loving attention to her every need.
