Edwin Hall Chauncey

Edwin Ed Hall Chauncey, of Rocky Mount, VA, died Monday, February 21, 2011 with his wife at his side. Ed was born on April 19, 1933 to his parents Fulton Hutckins Chauncey and Hazel Hall Chauncey, deceased, and was raised in Hilton Village (Newport News) VA. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Richards Chauncey, one brother Warren Fulton Chauncey of Virginia Beach and Charlottesville, his children Virginia Chauncey of Augusta County, Caron Chauncey Wailor (Chris) of Houston TX, and Kirk Fulton Chauncey of Richmond, one grandson Jonathan Powell Holt of Richmond. Attending Warwick High School in Newport News, VA, he lettered in four sports and was a member of the State Track Team. Ed attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated with a degree from the University of Richmond. He also attended TC Williams Law School prior to entering the US Army, serving in Germany and was a member of the Long Range Rifle Patrol. He spent over 35 years in the brokerage business, starting with the original firm of Abbott, Proctor, and Paine and retired from UBS Paine Webber in Richmond. He had a passion and deep respect for history, especially US History and the War Between the States. He was a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, He enjoyed life and loved to read, travel, explore new places, converse with people, genealogy, and all kinds of number and word games. Enjoying life in Rocky Mount, Ed was actively involved in numerous civic groups and activities. His legacy is his family and 150 year old home in Rocky Mount he masterfully restored. He will be greatly missed by his family and his large extended family, all of whom will remember Ed with much love and laughter. In lieu of flowers, one may make a contribution to the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church or the Virginia Historical Society (804)358-4901 made to the Hazel & Fulton Chauncey Lectures Fund, set up by Edwin and Warren Chauncey in honor of their parents. Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 with Dr. John Plummer officiating. Interment will follow in High Street Cemetery with Pastor Rick Poland officiating.
