Eliza Perdue (Sis) Carter, age 102, passed away on Wednesday June 3rd, 2015. She was born on October 14, 1912 in Union Hall, VA. Sis was preceded in death by her parents, Hampton and Nannie Blankenship Perdue; her husband of 67 years Virgil Cameron Carter; two sons, Michael & Ronnie; one daughter, Linda Stone, two grandchildren, Ricky & David Carter; one great-grandchild, Brian Worrell; and one great-great-grandchild, Konner Sturgill. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Ed, Charles, & Harvie Perdue; four sisters, Vernie Law, Vicky Holland, Fern Ferguson, & Cheryl Perdue.
Left to cherish her memory are five sons, Cameron (Reta), Wilson, Glen, Roger (Barbara) & Milton (Connie) Carter; two daughters, Bettie (Glenn) Powell & Donna (Dickie) Hatcher; 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great- grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mollie Holland and Hazel Ziegler; and a wonderful friend & neighbor, Shirley Brown.
Mrs. Carter was the first cafeteria manager at Dudley Elementary School from which she retired in 1985 after 18 years of service. She was also part of the 4-H Camp cafeteria staff for many years. Hers was a lifetime of service and love for children, beginning with her younger siblings and extending to her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and through her work. Just last year when asked while holding her latest great-great-grandchild how many babies she thought she might have held in her lifetime, she replied “not enough”.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to her very loving caregivers; Nancy Hale, Amanda Wharton, and Kim Eaton. They provided tender loving care for Sis for many months.
Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015 with Elder Junior Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Scruggs Volunteer Fire & Rescue, 2180 Bluewater Drive, Moneta, VA 24121, or a charity of their choice. The family respectfully requests no food.
