Elmer B. Smith

Elmer Basil Smith age 87 went to heaven at day break at his home in Franklin Co. Tuesday Feb 18, 2014. Mr. Smith was born May 27, 1926 to the late Benjamin J. Smith and Ida Toney Smith. He is survived by a son and care giver Lloyd Smith; daughter Dixie Huff and husband Jim; son Toney Smith and wife Diane; Two grandsons Jake Smith and Ben Smith; Former wife Barbara Moore and husband Wayne and numerous nieces and nephews. Basil was retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was a proud WWII veteran having served in the Navy and Air Force. He was also a former Roanoke City Policeman and Roanoke City Firefighter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crafts United Methodist Church, 30 Crafts Lane, Glade Hill, VA. 24092 Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner Bowman Funeral Chapel 2:00pm Friday with Rev. Judith Short officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill. His family will be receiving friends from 12- 2p.m. Friday prior to the service at Lynch Conner Bowman Funeral Chapel, 140 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount, VA (540)483-5533
