Fred Lee Sledge, 91, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
Fred was born in Devine, Texas on October 30, 1921. He was known for his kind and generous spirit, always a gentleman, who loved his family and friends.
Fred was married to Helen Virginia Stumff Sledge on February 16, 1948; they were married 60 years.
Fred joined the Army Air Corp in WWII serving in Burma. He continued to serve his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Susan Sledge Hilfer and her husband Roger, of Callaway; grandchildren Matthew Hilfer and wife Sarah, of Chester; Marie Hilfer Hunter and husband John, of Franklin; Great-Grandchildren, Wyatt Hunter, Emma and Owen Hilfer; niece, Rena Hajduk, of San Antonio, Texas, as well as many other wonderful nieces, nephews, family and friends.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Piedmont Presbyterian Church in Callaway. Rev. John Hunter of New Branch Community Church and Rev. David Codington of Piedmont Presbyterian Church will be officiating.
