Garney J. Day

Garney J. Day, age 79 of Boones Mill passed away Wednesday November 8, 2017. Born Aug. 15 1938 in Wise County, Va. He was the son of the late Isaac Burton Day and Alice Mae Cantrell Day and was also preceded in death by His wife, Gloria J. Day; son Timothy Noel Day; and grandson, Christopher Wright. He is survived by his Children, Beth Edwards and Terry, James Day, Jathan Day and LaShawnda, Nia Davis and Bill, David Wright and Julie, Mark Wright, Lisa Black and Norman; grandchildren, C. J. Wright, Kim Guckenburg, Stephanie Miller, Misty Dingman, Thomas Black, Joy Edwards, Devin Henley, Aaron Day, Caleb Henley, Celeste Edwards, Alex Day, Trey Henley, Carlee Davis and Sam Day; six great-grandchildren. Garney came from a large family, brothers, Alfred, Adrain, Steve and David sisters, Ruth, Irene; half brother, Ernest; half-sisters, Edison and Mary. Garney graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Carson Newman College, he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained at Gate City Baptist Church, September 28 1959. His first church was in Coeburn, then he pastored at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Thaxton, Springwood Baptist Church, Buchanan. He co-Pastored at Rainbow Forest Baptist Church in Troutville. He planted and pastored Gethsemane Baptist Church in Boones Mill. After retiring from the ministry, he became a Member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. He also worked at the Virginia department of rehabilitative services with the visually blind. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, 1444 Bonbrook Mill Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Funeral Services will be conducted from Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 14, 2017 with the Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
