Gary Miller Seay, age 94 of Moneta died Tuesday, November 20, 2024.
Gary graduated from Buchanan High School, served in the U.S. Army in Germany where he was undefeated lightweight boxing champion with the 1st Division. He then served in Korea and earned a number of medals including 2 Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, and Purple Heart. He was a Prisoner of the War in Korea for 31 months and 7 days during which time he went from weighting 170 lbs. to 96 lbs. when he was released. He worked at Roanoke Animal Hospital for 12 years and owned and retired from Gary’s Poodle Salon after 24 years in the grooming business. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Gary is survived by his wife of 71 years, Winifred (Winnie) Duncan Seay; sons, Randy Seay and wife Elisabeth, Larry Seay and wife Dawn; three grandsons, Kevin Seay, Wyatt Seay, and Elijah Seay; great-grandchildren, Lacy Marie Seay and Joseph Alexander Seay ; brother, Richard; sister, Iona Seay Watts; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Mae Seay; sisters, Carol Seay, Frances Seay Smith; brothers, Bruce Seay and Ronnie Seay.
It was Gary’s desire to be cremated and his service to be private.
