George Monroe Smith

George Monroe Smith, age 86, of Glade Hill, passed away July 8, 2011. He was born in Franklin County on March 9, 1925, the son of the late John Calvin (Jack) and Julie Mary Smith. Monroe worked at Lane Co. for 33 years, has been a devoted gardner, and built canes since 1979. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Calvin, Tansey, James, Ira, Henry and Clarence Smith; two sisters, Marie Young and Fannie Dillon. He is survived by brothers, Richard & Doris Smith, and Hugh Smith; a close friend, Henry Bousman; and special nephew, Johnnie Smith. Services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2:00 pm Monday, July 11 with Rev. Bill Doss officiating. Interment will follow in the Crookview Family Cemetery.
