Geraldine M. (Nanny) Burke

January 15, 1926 — November 9, 2014

Our loving mama, Geraldine M. (Nanny) Burke, 88, of Franklin County, went to her heavenly home on November 9, 2014. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Claude D. Burke, her infant daughter Joanie, mother Nina Rockwell Davis and her father Raymond Davis, her brothers Carroll Davis, Bernard Davis and Everett Davis and her sister Betty Anne Davis. She is survived by her devoted, loving children Kathy (Bill) Salmon, Walter Lynn (Patty) Richardson, Vicki (Skeeter) Seekford, Pami (Tommy) Nash, Cheri (Patrick) Woodson and her amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life - Seth (Kimmy) Richardson, children Bradley, Sophie and Isabella, Alicia (Daniel) Richardson, Allison (Travis) Welborn, children, Jacee, Tanner and Timberly, Melissa (Larry) Quisano, their children Maile, Keala and Alana, Zeke Richardson, Billy (Beverly) Salmon, their children Brooke (Ryan) Cyr, Katy Salmon, Maggie Salmon, Brian (Rhonda) Salmon, their children Brennen, Austin (Aimee), Trae and Connor, Michelle (Curtis), their children Michael and Emma, Stephen (Rachael) Nash, their daughter Eloise Hazel, Megan Seekford (Marcus Hamilton), Justin Seekford, Matthew (Rachel) Berry, Sara Berry and her fiancé Joel Schott, Ashley Woodson, Cody Woodson and great-great-granddaughter Gabriella Rose Salmon. Also left to cherish her memory her chosen daughter Connie (Mike) Sisler and family, her youngest brother James Davis, sister-in-law Nellie Davis, cousin Joyce Weldon and family, sisters-in-law Betty Lorince, Donna Eddins, Dorothy Davis and many special nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was blessed with dear neighbors Carol and Doug Terry. She will also be missed by her loving, faithful companion Dixie. During her marriage, Nanny and her family lived in many states and overseas in Japan. Nanny travelled to all fifty states, many of those trips shared with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling abroad including trips to England, Scotland, France, Ireland and Spain. Her favorite place in the world was the beach and she spent many, many memorable times with her family at beaches on the east and west coasts. Her generous spirit, creativity, quiet grace and sense of humor were among her many gifts she shared with all. She gave her grandchildren nothing but unconditional love, support, and friendship. She enjoyed telling stories of her past and shared many memories. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Grateful thanks to Joe and Beverly Rutter and Anne Lynch and Toni Stump who assisted our family and lovingly cared for Nanny. Our gratitude to Carilion Hospice, especially Karen Tosh and Rick Poland for guiding our family through Nanny's final journey. There will be a celebration of Nanny's life at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 12, 2014, followed by a family visitation at Conner- Bowman Funeral Home, 62 Virginia Market Place Drive (Route 220 @ Wirtz Road). Burial will be in Culpeper National Cemetery 1:00 PM Thursday, November 13, 2014, where she will rest with her husband.
