Giles R. Bowles

Giles R. Bowles, age 86 of 747 Bowles Valley Rd., Rocky Mount, passed away July 10, 2011. He was born May 29, 1925, a son of the late John Henry Bowles and Rosa Mae Eames Bowles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Kenneth R. Bowles; brothers Frank, Oscar, Lester, Walter, Wilfred, Raymond and James Bowles; and one sister Flora Bowles Oakes. Giles was a longtime member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was an Honorary Deacon. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Snow Creek Rescue Squad and the American Heart Association. Giles retired in 2000 after 37 years of Sales at Ramsey Ford, Franklin Ford and Duncan Ford. Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Beulah Adkins Bowles; daughters and son-in-law Linda Bowles Morris of Union Hall; Pamela Bowles Joyce and husband Jimmy; and grandson Kevin Joyce, all of Collinsville; sisters-in-law Catherine Bowles of Ridgeway, Elizabeth, and Thelma Bowles of Martinsville and Edna Adkins Angell of Moneta; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of his caregivers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Snow Creek Rescue Squad, 7049 Snow Creek Rd., Penhook, VA 24137. Funeral services will be conducted from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Gary Edwards and Pastor Joe Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
