Ginny Watson

July 7, 1930 — January 8, 2017

Early Sunday morning the Watson family lost a loving wife, a devoted mother, a creative grandmother, and a proud great-grandmother. Ginny Watson was born July 7, 1930, in Hamilton, Ohio. She attended elementary and high school in Wooster, Ohio. She spent one year at Wooster College and followed Roy to The Ohio State University where she earned a BA in Child Development. She resided 11 years in Battle Creek, MI followed by 22 years in Mt. Kisco, NY. For several years she either taught kindergarten or worked as a substitute teacher in elementary schools. She conducted workshops for the LCA, New York Synod. She was interested in quilting and both the antique and modern tools of the craft, authored books on the subject and taught classes at local and national quilt shows. She moved to Smith Mountain Lake from New York in 1989. She started the Smith Mountain Lake Quilt Guild, which still flourishes today. She is a charter member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish, served on Parish Council and was Council President. A special joy for her was to occasionally present "The Children's Moment " at the worship service. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Roy; sister, Sally Young of West Middlesex, PA; sons, Robert L. and wife Lila of Las Vegas, NV, John R. and wife Robin of Wirtz, VA, Wade Thomas and wife Petra of Canton, GA, and James R. and Maria of Surfside, FL. Her 9 grandchildren; Sarah Watson, James Watson, Scott Watson and wife Alina all of Las Vegas NV, granddaughter Erica Sauer and husband Stephan, Columbia SC, Isabella Watson, Jenna Watson and Megan Watson, Emily and Melissa Rasowsky of Washington DC. Her 3 greatgrandchildren are; Kaine Watson, Eden and Florence Sauer. A Celebration of the Resurrection and Commendation of Ginny Watson to be held at 11:00 on Saturday, January 14th at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Moneta, VA. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Trinity Parish's Family Ministry.
