In quiet dignity, Glee Arvol Scott, Sr. age 80 of Ferrum, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 19, 2010. He was born March 31, 1930 to Ezra Waitman and Wilma Gillispie Scott. Mr. Scott was predeceased by his parents and grandparents, Mary Etta and James Wiley Gillispie, and Lala and Arthur Scott; a brother, Lester Scott; three sisters-in-law, Lorraine Scott, Rachel Scott and Priscilla Woods; one nephew, Danny Scott.
Glee proudly served his country in the U.S. Army- Signal Corp. Korean War earning three bronze stars.
He graduated from Ferrum High School and attended Ferrum Junior College. Mr. Scott retired from J.D. Bassett Furniture Company after thirty-five years of service. He was a quiet man who loved his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted and loving wife, Edna Hurd Scott; two loving sons and daughters-in-law, Lacy and Lynn Scott and Glee, Jr. (Scotty) and Amy Scott; also a precious granddaughter, Electra Alejandra Piunti and soon to be great-grandson, Draven; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Herbert Cundiff of Rocky Mount; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Waylon and Gale Scott, Rocky Mount; and James A. Scott of Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Larry Scott, Bonnie Strickland, Eddie, Kenny, Ricky and Mike Scott; Celeste Heath, Pam Cundiff, Rodney, Jim and Melissa Scott, and Virginia Lane Woods. A special cousin, Kathy Varnadoe and a special caregiver, Judy Guilliams.
Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 3 P.M. Tuesday, September 21, 2010, with the Rev. Winston Crichlow and Pastor Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County or to the Ferrum Rescue Squad.
