Glenny “Moss” Edwin Lafferty, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Moneta, Virginia, on December 21, 2024. Glenny was born in Willis Branch, West Virginia, and graduated from Pax High School, Pax West Virginia in 1958. He went on to graduate from Beckley College, Beckley West Virginia. After moving to Virginia, Glenny pursued a banking and finance career in Roanoke Virginia, working for Ford Motor Credit Company. and eventually becoming VP of operations with First Virginia Bank. He was a contributing member of the Kiwanis Club during the late 1970s and early 1980s and was also involved with the Jaycees helping youth sports, specifically the Punt Pass and Kick program.

After a dedicated 30-year career in banking, Glenny retired from First Virginia Bank, where he was highly respected for his contributions and commitment to his work.

Glenny took great care of his wife, Patsy, until her passing in 2007. As the best girl dad ever and for countless other reasons, his daughters Vicki and Amy are forever grateful for his many loving sacrifices.

Glenny truly loved being outside with his dogs, cat, working in his flower gardens, observing the birds and animals that surrounded his home daily. He loved reading the daily newspapers, magazines, books, and worked on crossword puzzles every day.

Glenny was preceded in death by his parents, Nora Mae Thomas Lafferty and James Dawson Lafferty; his beloved wife of 49 years, Patsy LaVonne Walters Lafferty; and his sister, Shirley Buckland.

He is survived by his two daughters, Amy Lafferty and Vicki Lafferty Shepherd, and his son-in-law Robert W Shepherd II. He leaves behind his “brother”, Gary Wayne Lafferty and his wife Sharon, and his "little sister", Drema Kay Gray. Grandchildren: Hunter Shepherd and Allie Shepherd; Sister/Brother-in-law: Anna Mae/Gary Craddock, Becky/Eddie Lucas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Dwain Craddock, Kim Craddock, Angie Patterson, Christine Robinson, Wayne Lafferty, Ray Walters, Scott Lucas, Eric Lucas, Shelia Fredericks, Larry Walters, Robert Walters, Kimberly Lenhard, Michael Walters, Randall Buckland, Allen Buckland, Robert Buckland, Raymond Buckland, Todd Buckland, Deborah Buckland, Edwina Rhodes, Julie Smith, Troy Lafferty, Trent Lafferty, Marc-Antony Patterson, and Nathaniel Patterson. Grandnephews Ben Craddock, Drew Lucas and grandniece Serenity Lucas. Cousins including Shirley K. Britt, Gary Lafferty, Roger Lafferty, Rosella Kristovich, Joan Pennington, Nancy Di Lorenzo, James DiLorenzo, Tom Pennington, Debra Lynn Richmond, Darlene Conley, Timothy Conley, Darren Conley, Michael Oswalt, Jeremiah Ruhl, and James Lilly and many more. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Anna Mae Craddock and Gary Craddock, for always making just the right meal, that brought a smile and a full belly, and for being someone they could lean on for many years. 

Gary Wayne Lafferty for always making sure too much time didn’t pass between conversations. Judy Barley, Glenny’s school days and lifelong friend, is cherished for always calling to share news and memories and knowing just when he needed to receive a card in the mail. Paul Coleman and Denise for providing full belly laughs and treating Glenny to his favorite breakfast and so much more. Willie Potter, you brought laughter and distraction to Glenny’s life when needed most, making each day a little more bearable.

Thank you to all his “Pax” family that remained in touch throughout the years: Sandy/French Maynor, Duke/Brenda Maynor, Sharon/Steve Holstein, and many more. He treasured and looked forward to every conversation, card, Christmas card, original painting /history about Pax shared with him.

Glenny’s life is marked by the love, compassion and understanding he shared with his friends, family and customers, and through the connections he built during his years living in West Virginia and Roanoke Valley in Virginia.

May his kindness, his smile, his laughter, and the memories you’ve shared together, bring comfort to all who knew him.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 VA Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 with Pastor Rick Poland officiating.
