Gracie Irene Greer

Gracie Irene Greer, age 71 of Henry went home to her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 22, 2016 with her family by her side. Gracie was a member of the Evangelistic House of Prayer in Ferrum for over 40 years. Her faith led many people to Christ. She was a shining light to all. Even through many adversities in life, her faith kept her strong throughout. She will be greatly missed by all. She was born on November 13, 1944, a daughter of the late John & Dorothy Boyd. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Boyd; a daughter, Lona Greer Watson; and the love of her life, John Rakes. She is survived by her children, John “Buzz” Gunnell (Debbie), Lena Sowder (Robert), Rita Sigmon (Justin); son-in-law, Dan Watson; her grandchildren, Robin Goodman (Justin), Brooklynn & Brystal Sigmon; great-grandchildren, Alina Sowder & Trinity Goodman. She is also survived by her siblings, Ilene Underwood, Guerlain Varnadore (Steve), Shirley Austin (Bill), Rowena Cooper, Mary Clingenpeel, Jimmy Boyd (Rachel), Tony Boyd (Wren), Nora Jane Scott (Peanut), Judy Scott (Danny), Julia Ann Larsen (John); many loved nieces and nephews; and her endearing friend, Shirley Allen. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Evangelistic House of Prayer with Rev. Bud Nichols officiating. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 4 p.m. A private graveside will be held prior to service.
