Gracie Peters Scott, age 87 of Ferrum passed away on Friday, September 10, 2010 at Franklin Health Care where she had been a resident for the past six years. As she and her family struggled through the progression of Alzheimers Disease, Gracie continued to portray her sweet smile and constant gratitude for her care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford D. Scott, in 1985. Gracie was also predeceased by brothers, Grady Peters, Archie Peters and Everett Peters; and sisters, Sylvia Peters Shively and Jessie Peters Young.
Gracie and her family are long-time members of Maple Grove United Methodist Church on Henry Road, Ferrum where she, in her earlier days, served as one of the MYF leaders and continued to be active in Sunday School, worship attendance, and UMW as long as her health permitted. She retired in 1995 after working at Ferrum Elementary School Food Services for 20 years, helping to prepare and serve lunch to those precious children several of whom were her grandchildren.
Surviving Gracie and remembering her with smiles and tears are her children, daughter, Judy S. Johnson and husband, Earl; sons and daughters-in-law, Otis C. Scott and Lorene, Donald D. Scott and Joyce, Michael W. Scott and Debbie. Clifford and Gracies constant joy were their eleven grandchildren; oldest to youngest are: Donna Scott Williamson, Kelly Dean Scott, Trina Johnson Prillaman (Marshall), Jennifer Scott Brown (Mike), Stephanie Scott Gravely (Rhone), Jann Scott Shorter (Rob), Brandon Scott, Amanda A. Scott, Jessica Scott, Tracy Johnson Hansen, and Chad Scott (Ashley). Great-Grandchildren are: Mikey Brown, Bridget Prillaman, Alyssa Scott, Jacob Brown, Addie Shorter, Emma Shorter, Alek Shorter and Laken Prillaman.
Also surviving are sisters, Goldie Peters Brogan of Carthage, NC and Ruby Peters James of Rocky Mount; special sister-in-law, Willie Scott of Ferrum and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family invites all to share in the celebration of Gracies life at Maple Grove United Methodist Church 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 with Rev. Adam Woods and Rev. Winston Crichlow officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
