G.W. Huston

George William Huston (G.W.), 77 of Redwood, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 14, 2014 after a long illness with cancer. G.W. grew up in the Franklin County area, attended Franklin County schools, and worked in the local community his entire life. G.W. devoted many work years in management to furniture and textiles and later owned his own business in the town of Rocky Mount from 1982 – 2003. For over two decades, G.W. served as a volunteer and secretary to the Glade Hill Fire Department. G.W. also was a devout church member of the Bible Baptist Church in Garden City, VA. For pleasure, G.W. was a gifted Bluegrass musician who played guitar, fiddle, banjo, and harmonica with many local musicians and friends. His Redwood garage was known as one of the local musician hangouts. George’s most important role in his life was being a loving and caring family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ercell Huston and his sister, Katherine Huston Woods. George is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Avis Brown Huston. G.W. was the adoring father to two daughters, Annette Huston Chamberlin and her husband, Mark Chamberlin, Donna Huston Kelley and her husband, Donald Kelley, and his son, George DeWayne Huston and his wife, Angela Byrd Huston. G.W. was a wonderful grandfather to four grandchildren, Heather Nicole Kelley, Brandon Michael Kelley, William Jackson Huston, and Vivian Elyse Huston. G.W. is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Grace Kelley. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 2:00p.m. at the Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home (town chapel) in Rocky Mount, VA. Pastor Rick Brown will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Glade Hill Fire Department/Rescue Squad and the American Cancer Society.
