Harry Jacob Berger, age 87 of Union Hall died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in a Roanoke hospital.
He was known to the locals as “Mayor” of Union Hall and was retired from J. P. Stevens Company in Rocky Mount.
Mr. Berger was born November 23, 1923, a son of the late Samuel Jacob and Vergie Allman Berger and was also preceded in death by his wife, Cora Lee Dudley Berger; his brother, Crispen David (Chip) Berger; brothers-in-law, Fred Altice and Douglas Altice.
He is survived by his son, Harry Berger, Jr. (Wanda); granddaughters, Andrea Berger and friend Dennis Lynch, Stephanie Berger; great-granddaughters, Emileigh Berger, Alexis Surber and Molleigh Berger; sisters, Elizabeth B. Altice, Nancy B. Altice and Brenda Sue Berger. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel, 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 with Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the Berger Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Glade Hill Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 82, Glade Hill, VA 24092.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 18, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
