Our dear sweet husband and father, Henry G. Sword went home to meet his Savior and Lord Tuesday, September 27. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Army from August 29, 1952 to May 28, 1954, worked at the Ferrum Minute Market and was a member Central Grace Church.
He was the son of the late John E. Sword and Maudie Rhea Sword. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Willie Sword, step-mother, Beulah Sword, brothers-in-law, Mack Rife, Eulas Rhea, Frank Adams and Bernard Adams. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Roberta Adams Sword. He was the father to Donna Sword and David Sword (Karen); and also surviving is his granddaughter, Sheryl Montrief; brothers, John, Robbie, Billy, Jerry; sisters, Clara Mae Rife, Ruth Rhea, Caroline Boardwine; sister-in-law, Opal Sword; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Claude and Beatrice Cobler; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, 3959 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24012.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, September 30, 2016 at Central Grace Church, 3596 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount, with Paul Mahan, Pastor Central Grace Church officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday beginning at 10:00 at the church.
