Howard James Nell was called to the Lord on December 5, 2020. He was born on December 3, 1924, son of the late James and Elizabeth (Bernand) Nell, in Yonkers, New York. He was educated in Yonkers and was a Med Tech in the Army in Austria during World War II before marrying Euphemia Lauder, the love of his life, on September 20, 1947.
During their almost 73 years of marriage, Howard and his wife, Effie, loved to travel and found numerous places to call home, starting in New York and moving on to Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida, before finally coming back to Virginia. He had many roles during his lifetime, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was active in his church as a deacon, an honorary Girl Scouts, and avid boater and camper who loved to travel, seeing 49 of the fifty states.
He was predeceased by his wife, Effie and his brother Sidney W Nell. He is survived by his two daughters, Catherine (Scott) Croteau of New Hampshire and Barbara Kraska of Rocky Mount, Virginia. Four grandchildren Scott (Robin) Croteau and Christopher (Jennie) Croteau of New Hampshire, Elizabeth (Joshua) Ross of Montana and Joseph Kraska of Rocky Mount, Virginia and three Great-grandchildren.
