Ira Bruce Powell

Ira Bruce Powell, age 83 of Glade Hill, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 in the VA Medical Center. Ira was a U.S. Army Veteran, retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad and was a member of Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Church. He was born on December 12, 1932 a son of the late Oliver V. and Annie Thurman Powell, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Silas Powell (Carrie); sisters, Vera Dent (Junior) and Dossie Kennett (Ferris); brothers-in-law, Walter Willard (Virginia), Jacob Willard (Fennie), Lynwood Robertson and Elton Wilson; sisters-in-law, Arnie West (Alvin), Dora Holland (Thomas). Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Elsie Willard Powell; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Dreama Powell; his grandson and his wife, Chris and Heather Powell; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Jacob and Isaiah Powell. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Janice Powell; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Zelda Robertson, Doris Smith (Richard), and Eddie Wilson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including their neighbors. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with Military Honors.
