Jack Edward Sherwood passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014. Jack was born April 21, 1923 and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, by his parents, Emma and Morris Sherwood and was a proud US Marine and served in WWII. He met his loving wife, Jackie Wigginton Sherwood, while serving in the military and they married on June 9, 1945, and made their home in Roanoke, VA. Jack loved art, autos, boating, and designing homes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a man of integrity, strong-willed, and quite witty. One of his greatest accomplishments was starting his own business; Sherwood Advertising Art. Mr. Sherwood retired in 1990 and moved to Smith Mountain Lake and now residing in Wirtz. Jack was preceded in death by his mother; father; brother, Harold Sherwood; sister-in-law, Phoebe Hicks (Bob); and grandson, Cade Aldridge. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jackie; his son, Rob Sherwood of AZ; daughters, Sherry Van Gelder (Phillip) of CA, and Debbie Aldridge of NC; his loving grandchildren, Darcy Vasudev and Jullanar Murphy of CA, Brittany and Kimberly Aldridge of NC, Brooke Lopez (Michael) and Lisa Ross (Brian) of WV, Jordan Sherwood (Emily) of AZ, David Doman (Krista) of OH; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Allan Sherwood (Grace) of CA; sister-in-law, Betty Weaver; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to Toni and Andy Levine, B.J. and Clarence Craig, Bree and Lisa, and Pastor Josh Munnikhuysen for all their special help. Funeral Services will be conducted from the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum, 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 with Rev. Josh D. Munnikhuysen officiating and Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675, or to Epworth United Methodist Church, 60 Merriman Way Road, Moneta, VA 24121. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, January 5, at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 VA Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. (540) 334-5151
