James Joseph Janson, Sr., age 79, of Hardy and Onchiota, NY, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013. He was born May 9, 1934, son of the late Carl and Caroline Marhan Janson. He was also preceded in death by a brother Roger Gowan. Jim was a Veteran Rep for the Star Touring & Riding Motorcycle association, Chapter 214 of the Adirondacks, NY. He retired from Cold Spring Harbor School District of New York as head of district maintenance in 1991. Jim’s favorite things were his dogs, cats, motorcycle, traveling in his RV and having a cold beer while watching the New York Giants. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War on the USS Union. Surviving is his loving wife, Janet “Jan” Janson; Sons, James Joseph Janson, Jr. and his wife Chris of Amherst, NH, Timothy Janson and his wife Julie of East Northport, NY; Six Grandchildren, Abby, Peter, Sam, Rebecca, Emily & Timothy, Jr.; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Harriett Bocckinfuso; Dear Cousin, Millie Bolcer, of Texas; and his beloved cats Chloe and Theodore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Shore Animal League in Long Island, NY or to the Disabled American Veterans. Graveside services will be held at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Virginia, Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM with military honors.
