Janet Hopkins Abshire of Boones Mill was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 15, 2021, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Roanoke on October 24, 1932, she was the eldest daughter of the late Louella Hopkins and Charlie Hopkins. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, John Abshire, and a special sister-in-law, Colleen Abshire.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Darryl Abshire (Renee); daughter Linda Cruff (Danny); grandchildren Johnathan Hatcher, David Abshire (Marissa), Daniel Abshire (fiancée Abigail Doyle); great grandchildren Gabriel Hatcher and Oakley Abshire; sisters Doris Armstrong and Mary Ramsuer (Harold); special niece Debbie Walker; special cousin Pat Wheeler; and special friends Harold Clemons and Jake and Julie Caplick.
Janet faithfully attended Clearbrook Baptist Church until she was no longer able. The love of the Lord was expressed in everything she did, from her deep love of and dedication to her family, to her gracious hospitality where she expected all visitors to join her for a meal. She enjoyed cooking and was an excellent cook. Janet loved flowers, the color purple, and interior decorating. She was a dedicated employee of Roanoke Mills-Tultex until her retirement.
Her funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, April 19, 2021 at Conner Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Bryan Ratliff officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
A special “Thank You” is extended to her caregivers Johnathan Hatcher and Darryl Abshire.
