Jayhugh Hamblett

N. Jayhugh “Jay” Hamblett, 71, of Rocky Mount, VA passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at his residence. He was born July 31, 1944 the son of the late J. B. Hamblett and Hallie Hamblett. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Preston, Delores Glisson, Nancy Meador; four brothers, Everette Hamblett, Dempsey Hamblett, Clydell Hamblett, Euell Hamblett.He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He worked for many years as an agent for Home Beneficial Insurance Company. Surviving are his wife, Susan Hamblett; son, Bradley Hamblett; three step sons, Jason Karpow (Jennifer), Matthew Shields, Adam Shields; twelve grandchildren, Caitlin, Michael, Megan (Ruben), Claire, Ellie, Joshua, Jessica, Jocelyn, Mackenzie, Ericka, Hunner, Amberleigh; great granddaughter, Aliyah; three sisters, Ellen H. Robertson, Marcella H. Peters (Ray), Gerry H. Gilley (Terry);brother, Alton Hamblett (Pat); sister-in-law, Vene Hamblett; best loved nephew, Jim Smith; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday at Penn Forest Worship Center, 3735 Chaparral Drive, Roanoke, VA 24018 with Pastor Myron Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park, Rocky Mount, VA. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the church.
