Jesse David "Pap" Hodges

March 6, 1943 — December 4, 2017

On Monday, Dec 4, 2017, Jesse David Hodges, known as husband, brother, uncle, friend and by all as “Pap”, was called home by his Lord and Savior. The world lost a most unique man. Whether you ran into in his daily uniform adorned with his name patch at the post office or was able to catch him somewhere dressed up in his overalls and cowboy tie at a “special” event, you were guaranteed a laugh. He was a gentle soul who always had a story to share and anyone he knew had a story to tell about Pap. He shared with family and friends his love of George Jones, Betty Boop, Tommy Greer’s rendition of the Rabbit Foot Blues, and his change…. lots of change bagged up and delivered to all his nieces and nephews attending college. Though he never had children of his own he loved kids and had a special way in sharing the “old timey” ways with them. His laugh was contagious and recognizable, he had a huge heart regardless of his sometimes gruff delivery. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He was a fan of the underdogs in life and always wanted to see people succeed. There are many people who can attest to the part he played in helping them. He is preceded in death by his father, Claude Jesse Hodges, mother Melva Greer Hodges “Polly” and sister Cheryl Bowles Ellis. He is survived by wife Catherine Boitnott Hodges, brother Barry “Buz” Hodges (Nancy) and sisters Barbara Carter (Roger) and Kim Gentry and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Redeeming Life Pentecostal Holiness Church 11am Friday with Pastor David Smith and Dr. Jackie Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements by Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, Rt. 220, Rocky Mount.
