James Melvin (“Jim”, “J.J.”) Hiles, age 72 of Boones Mill passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015.
Jim was passionately known as “J.J.” by his trucking friends as he spent his life dedicated to the profession he loved, “Looking at the World through a Windshield”. He was also a member of Boones Mill Baptist Church.
He was born on February 24, 1943 a son of the late Donald and Mary Evelyn Hiles and also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Donald Hiles, Jr., Robert Hiles, Mary Evelyn Eckels, Charles Hiles and Douglas Hiles.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Hiles; sons and daughters-in-law, James “Jim” Hiles, Don Hiles (Sylvia) and Doug Hiles (Laura); daughters and sons-in-law, Dineen Mills (Munch), Deanna Ashcraft (John); brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Hiles (Ruth), Rev. Bill Hiles (Lois); sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte “Char” Turney (Ed), Donna Williams (George) and Rob Eckels; 14 grandchildren, Brittany (Rich) Budney, Nicco and Noah Mills, Kirsten, Zach (Tiffany) and Alex Hiles, Randy and Dallas Hiles, Belle and Seth Hiles, Kailee (Michael) Minton, Doug Elkins, Daniel and Ryleigh Ashcraft; great-grandchildren, Mia, Harper (Due December 2015), Sophia, Gabriella, Karsyn, Weston and Keegan; his best friend, Rocky “A man’s best friend”; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends including his “honorary granddaughter”, Samantha Calender.
Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Home Chapel, 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015 with the Rev. James H. Steele officiating.
