Jimmie Conklin, 39, of Boones Mill, VA left his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior in his eternal home on Friday, November 3, 2017. Our beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew and Cousin lost a long battle with cancer and passed away in the comfort of his home. He was able to come home in 2017 after residing at Salem Health and Rehab for two years. Jimmie loved being outdoors, admiring nature and spending time with his family and friends.
Jimmie previously worked at Porter’s Automotive in Boones Mill, VA before having an ATV accident in 1998. He was always thankful for “one more day”. He always had a joke and a story to tell. Jimmie was a longtime member of Antioch Church of the Brethren on Callaway Road in Rocky Mount, VA; where he participated in children’s programs, youth group and adult choir.
Although he did not attend VA Tech, he was a true Hokie fan. Jimmie loved VA Tech sports and often could be seen in a Tech shirt or hat.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his grandparents Donald and Kathryn Conklin of Kenmore, NY, Col. George and Adelaide Helms of Boones Mill, VA.; and an uncle Steven Helms of Boones Mill, VA. Surviving include father James H. Conklin of Boones Mill, VA; mother Georgiana (Keith) Chrisman of Boones Mill, VA; brother Matthew Conklin of Boones Mill, VA; sisters Dianna Olinger of Roanoke, VA, Leigh (Kenny) Furrow of Roanoke, VA; four nieces Christina Fisher of Blacksburg, VA., Sarah (Matt) McCoy of Blacksburg, VA., Kimberly Furrow of Roanoke, VA and Kari Furrow of Roanoke, VA; step nephew Bryson Chrisman of Boones Mill, VA; uncles Jeff (Sue) Conklin of Loudon TN and John (Joyce) Helms of Boones Mill, VA; aunts Addie (Dick) Lang of Boones Mill, VA., Connie (Andy) Blair of Boones Mill, VA and Gigi Helms of Boones Mill, VA; seven great nephews and one great niece all of Blacksburg, VA. Also, numerous cousins all around the country. Jimmie loved his entire family unconditionally. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice and the caregivers Jimmie had after returning home.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 8 from 5-7 PM with a service celebrating Jimmie’s life beginning at 7:00 PM at Antioch Church of the Brethren, 2996 Callaway Road, Rocky Mount, VA with Pastor Andy Duffy officiating.
