John Gilbert Harrison

John Gilbert Harrison, age 71, of Moneta, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial hospital. He was born on January 4, 1941 a son of late George, Sr. and Lena Swank Harrison. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Marines serving in the Korean Conflict, former owner of Scott Manufacturing (Leo Scott Cabinets) in Ferrum, and was a loyal and devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers…GO STEELERS! He was also preceded in death by his Brothers; George Harrison Jr. (Alberta), Dennis Harrison, Robert “Bobby” Harrison and Mina Harrison. He is survived by his Daughter Diona Harrison of Roanoke; His Loving Companion and Partner Carla Long of Moneta; and her Children Lauren M. Ventry, Morgan Long, Jordan Long; and her Grandchildren Maggie and Cullen. He is also survived by a brother Daniel Harrison (Louise) of California; and a sister Gloria Hunsberger (Tom) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. A special thank you to all of the staff of 9 South ICU and Dr. Robert Keeley of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the Love and Care shown during this time. Funeral Service will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2012 with Pastor Rick Poland officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Lake Christian Ministries, 13157 Old Moneta Road, Moneta, Virginia 24121.
