John Paul Peters age 89, of Ferrum, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012. He was born April 6, 1923 to the late Samuel Dick and Cora Peters.
In addition to his parents , he was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie; three brothers, Lawrence, Irvin, and Wilton; two sisters, Lula and Irene; and step-mother, Emma. Surviving are three daughters, Karen (Robert) Shivar, Sandra (Edward) Jackson, and Becky (Cleo) Sigmon; grandchildren, Sarah Jackson Chowning (Damon), Rachel Shivar Burden (Jeremy), Zachary Jackson (Heather), Emily Jackson, Mitchell Sigmon and Blaine Sigmon; great grandchildren, Atalaya and Justus Burden, Caleb Chowning, Avery Jackson, and Lily Jackson; one brother Frank Peters (Ileta); and Sister-in-Law, Eva Peters.
He spent his young years running the hills near Crossroads and attended the one room schoolhouse there. He saw more of the world serving in the Navy from 1943-1946 during WWII. Afterwards, he built his own home nearby when he married Goldie and began his family. He was a quiet, humble man who drew strength from these mountains he lived in. To many of us he was the wisest man we knew and could fix most things if he could take it apart to see how it worked. He enjoyed his grandchildren and they knew it. He loved a good sermon, a good chocolate pie and having all of his family come home.
