Joyce Faye Hicks Yopp, age 68 of Rocky Mount joined her husband Paul in Heaven on Saturday, May 5, 2012 after a brief aggressive battle with cancer with her loving family by her side.
Joyce was a volunteer with numerous Rescue Squads County wide for many years and enjoyed every moment she could caring for others, she was an avid race fan always cheering for an Earndhardt and one of her biggest joys was quilting, a joy that brought lots of comfort to her. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
She was born September 22, 1943 a daughter of the late Grady and Annie Hicks. She was also preceded in death by her husband Paul Yopp, Sr.; a son, Paul Yopp, Jr.; four brothers, Marvin, Wilford, John and Charlie Hicks.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ronnie Yopp (Michelle), Robert Yopp (Tina); daughters, Brenda Mitchell (John), Margaret Yopp; her grandchildren, Keesha Frith (Travis), Sherri Morris (Brian), Anthony Freeman (Amy), Dustin Yopp, Kati and Brooke, Bubba, Samantha, Amanda, Jeremy Mitchell (Lynn), Beverly Cox (Tom), Kenneth and Angelia, Corey and Ashley; her great-grandchildren, Travis and Madison, Brianna, Kalie, Macci and Chase, Hunter, Layla and Eathan, Jacklyn, Jessi, Jaqwan, Kiarra, Quincy, Jaylan, Kayzjah and Jeremiah, Abby, Shy’anna and Nicole; brothers, Jerry Hicks, Rufus Hicks (Connie), Robert Hicks (Ethel); sisters, Barbara Campbell (Doug), Nina Wallace (Don), Essie Morris (Ray), Gracie and James Wright, Jean Jordon (Junior); several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Henry Fork Church of the Brethren, 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Yopp Family Cemetery.
The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Her family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, Route 220 at Wirtz Road, Rocky Mount.
