Katherine Shaner Dillon

Katherine Shaner Dillon, age 96 of Rocky Mount, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015. Mrs. Dillon was born December 29, 1918 to the late Sandy and Anna Shaner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband S. Dennis Dillon and sisters Elizabeth Shaner and Eleanor Wagner. Katherine was a 1942 graduate of Lewis Gale Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse many years and also was a homemaker. Katherine attended Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church where she was a loyal member for many years. Surviving are her children, daughter Deanna Thurman (Allen “Smiley”), son Michael L. Dillon (Linda); grandchildren Matthew A. Thurman (Jackie), Jonathan M. Dillon (Lisa), Haley Doss (Jeremiah), Chelsea Deanna Dillon, Shanner Lewis Dillon; great-grandchildren Madison, MacKenzie and Jude Thurman, William and Amelia Dillon, and Layla Doss; sister Lelia S. Galvin (Butch); brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Betty Dillon; sister-in-law Mildred Dillon; special friends Rebecca Law and Peggy Via; many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank Sally Martin for all of her love and care. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner Bowman Funeral Home (Rt. 220 Chapel) 2:00 p.m. Monday with Dr. Russ Merritt officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
